Knives! Camera! Action! Great chefs celebrate the movies for Citymeals.

That’s me thanking the chefs and Tribute co-founders, Larry Forgione and Jonathan Waxman

April Bloomfield will roast a game pie from “Babette’s Feast. Rick Bayless will do achiote marinated pork on a black bean tamalon to celebrate “Once Upon a Time in Mexico.” Daniel Boulud and Gavid Kaysen are planning black bass crudo with fried lotus root in homage to “Grumpy Old Men.”  Those are a few highlights of the menu for Citymeals big walk-around Monday, June 4, in the garden, the Patina Group restaurants and esplanades of Rockefeller Center.

The energy in the garden is contagious. Here’s a portrait of the Chef stars in 2009.

Knives! Camera! Action: Great Chefs celebrate the Silver Screen.  That was the challenge posed to the star toques gathering for the 27th annual Chefs Tribute to James Beard to benefit Citymeals-on-Wheels in its mission to help feed the city’s fril homebound elderly. Lincoln’s Jonathan Benno and his right hand, Richard Capizzi proposed braising spare ribs Sicilian style inspired by “The Godfather. “ “La Dolce Vita,” and the fact that his partners cure meats, provoked Cesare Casella to serve artisanal salami. With Stanley Tucci as an honoroary chair that night it’s fitting that Scarpetta’s Scott Conant will serve the timballo from “Big Night.”

Expected to attend as well are Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Harrison Ford. Laurent Tourondel will do five pepper-crusted rib roast, an appropriate feast for the star of “Wall Street.” In homage to the White Rabbit of “Alice in Wonderland,” Rich Torrisi will serve rabbit terrine. Nancy Silverton from Mozza in Los Angeles plans to serve Mozza Caprese after “Attack of the Killer Tpmatoes.” Jacques Torres cites “Willy Wonka” and “Like Water for Chocolate” as inspiration for his frozen hot chocolate and pina colada chocolate shots.

The evening has been produced each year by Nick Valenti, now with Joachim Splichel his partner in the Patina Group. Ninah and Michael Lynne, Laura and John Pomerantz, Randi and Dennis Riese and Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch are chaurs.
